Make Positive Memories In A Fresh And Healthy Home

Doctor Aromas - blogging mamas

I think everyone associates certain smells with happiness, and for me, having grown up surrounded by mountains, the fresh smells of nature are near and dear to my heart.

Our tiny wooden house had cement floors and a tin roof, and in the front yard, we had a variety of plants and trees: guava, mango, passion fruit, avocado, fig, orange, lemongrass, eucalyptus, aloe vera, mint, fennel, just to name a few.

My grandpa was passionate about herbalism and energy healing. He was known as “el doctor Manuel,” even though he never received an education. Using plants as medicine was a huge part of my family culture, and because my grandpa is one of my personal heroes, I still carry out his legacy by using plant-based remedies and other forms of natural medicine.

Now that we are vegan, we have even a higher appreciation for plant-based wellness in my home. And since smell is the closest sense linked to memory, I may not be able to bring back the scents of my childhood literally to my environment, but I can use aromatherapy to evoke those feelings and moments with my grandpa that I cherish so dearly -while making sure we breathe in goodness in our space. It is believed that we take anywhere from 17,000 to 30,000 breaths a day, so imagine the difference that having a fresh smelling home can make!

It’s also beneficial to neutralize unpleasant odors. We are a pet and smoke free home, but you know there’s always something (mildew, food, or cloth diapers I haven’t gotten around to wash just yet).

We’ve been enjoying the Doctor Aromas home aromatherapy system for a few days, and we love being home even more! Doctor Aromas actually fills the whole space with delicious scents and essential oils that stimulate holistic well-being. That’s refreshing (pun intended!).

An essential oil is not really an oil but a concentrated liquid that comes from plants, flowers, bark, seeds, and fruits. Essential oils have antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, antidepressant, antiseptic, analgesic, and antiviral qualities. Some of these scents even boost your confidence and reduce fears. The most popular essential oils in the United States include lavender, peppermint, and sandalwood. My personal favorite? Probably chamomile, but it’s so hard to choose!

Aromatherapy can also improve mood and sleep and release stress and fatigue, and what toddler mom doesn’t need an enhancement in this area? Any mom, for that matter. I was so sleep deprived that I recently slept through the night in my daughters’ crib with her (it does help that I’m 4’9″ and weight less than 100 lbs.- and yeah, you may laugh at me lol). No wonder the moms who seem happier are the ones who go outside often, live in rural areas, or have time to shower (giggles).

According to a reputable Japanese study, aromatherapy stimulates the brain and increases concentration, memory, and productivity. That is really important in my home because we homeschool and work from home, or in other words, we THINK a lot at home.

But my #1 favorite reason to LOVE aromatherapy is the spiritual aspect. We all know that frankincense and myrrh were gifted to Jesus by the Tres Reyes Magos (which we celebrate as a family each January 6), and these, along with other fragrances, are still used in rituals and religious ceremonies around the world. In fact, when I was growing up, each New Year’s eve, we would wash, clean, and organize everything in the home and then burn incense and myrrh (along with other ingredients that I don’t know how to translate). The smoke was spread throughout the home in a tin can with a wire at midnight to release all the negative spirits and bring prosperity, harmony, and light in the year to come.

Besides their calming, soothing, comforting properties, these aromatherapeutic fragrances create a revitalizing environment where the Spirit of God can dwell.

The Doctor Aromas system I received was really easy to install, too. You put the battery in the dispenser, attach the fragrance canister to it, and with a remote, you can set it to spray when desired onto the AC filter. I could have done it myself, but I allowed my gentleman to do it for me, because, you know… why not?

I really like that it’s not visible and that you only need one canister to distribute the healing evenly throughout the entire house: that’s a money saver, since it lasts for a month or more. They have several product options and a great variety of aromatherapy scents and each is crafted with quality ingredients to ensure the best results.

Whether you need a boost in your health, or an answer to the everyday stresses of motherhood that cause depression, insomnia, and anxiety, it would be worth to try adding a bit of aromatherapy in the air (whether along with or instead of conventional medicine). I love that so many families and health professionals are embracing natural solutions that date back to ancient times and are logged in the Scriptures to heal our bodies, minds, and souls. I know they really work!

Just like the fragrances of my childhood make me happy, I love that I can make positive memories with my daughters in a fresh and healthy home, honoring Papá Manuel even far from my homeland.

What smells do you LOVE? Do you prefer fruity, spicy, fresh, floral, woody, citrus, or sweet? I’d love to know what you think about the Doctor Aromas system and for you to share your experiences with essential oils to improve health, thoughts, and emotions.

What great memories and beautiful thoughts too. I just started using essential oils this year and really enjoying them. We are using this product too and it's wonderful. I'm looking forward to trying new scents too.

I am one for having a great smelling house. I agree with another poster, candles burn way too fast so I too will try this. I've never used essential oils before so I'm excited at the prospect

Your positive memories from your childhood seem like they are characterized by a lot of the same scents I love, too! The funny thing is the several years that my family spent in a small town were actually not very positive for my family, but I still have a lot of great memories regarding the smell of the trees, etc.
