Mothers Make Miracles!

The birth of a child is the most miraculous event to ever take place. I cannot imagine anything more meaningful, symbolic, painful yet magical. The miracle of life.

I always celebrate my children’s birthdays as the days I became a mother. Like Mother’s Day, it’s nice to have established dates to commemorate special experiences and create family traditions around them. However, the birth of a child does not make a mother.

I have a fantastic, loving, giving, bright friend who shall remain unnamed. He once said to me:

“My mother didn’t contribute anything to my life. She was selfish, neglectful and unloving, to say the least. I vowed to never be anything like her.

I pondered about that for a second and said: “That’s your mother’s legacy. You learned to be who you are by being who she wasn’t.” It was a eureka moment.

In the same sense, I have known many amazing women who have never been able to have children of their own yet inspire, nurture and touch the lives of many children and adults alike. Women who are great mentors and contributors to their community, setting an example of unconditional love and generosity to many.

Motherhood is an attitude. Motherhood is a calling. Motherhood is intentional. Motherhood is a choice.

The power of a mother’s love can make miracles happen and heal generations. In the same sense, the lack of it can impact negatively damage life and cause a ripple effect. Motherhood is a role of great significance and its influence goes beyond the childhood years and even an individual’s life.

Are you intentionally choosing to co-create a legacy of love and light?

If you were given the glorious privilege of bearing, raising, adopting, teaching, mentoring, tutoring, or being in the presence of infants, children and teens, you are impacting their lives. I encourage you to consciously decide to make a positive difference and to share the motherly love inside you. If you already are, I salute you!

Handmade Mother's Day Present 2011

I salute mothers and mothers-to-be whose heart is broken: my good friend who had a miscarriage, my step-mom losing my two baby brothers right after birth, and having learned about mothers who outlive their children, mothers who suffer the hardships of having a prodigal son or daughter. My good friend, who has been trying to get pregnant for over 10 years, spent all her time, energy, and finances embarking upon that journey. How about all single mothers I know? Not to mention those mothers who care for mentally ill or physically disabled children their whole lives?

I also celebrate my mother in the words of Abraham Lincoln: “No one is poor who had a godly mother.”

I celebrate all positive mothers around the world. I celebrate your support, encouragement, prayers, example, strength, patience, time, courage, and ability to make your children smile and thrive through positive experiences in a happy childhood.

I celebrate my own motherhood by expressing my gratitude for being entrusted to Elisha and Elyssa’s guidance. They are my “joyest joy.”

May this also be a prayer for those mothers who feel less than positive to remember Art William’s words All You Can Do Is All You Can Do, But All You Can Do Is Enough. Just make sure you do all you can do!

Thank you for creating a miracle for a child every day!
