My reaction comment:

GASP!!!! Hawkeye is intense, thrilling, and intriguing, but equally sweet, inspiring, and hilarious in unexpected ways. You’ll be obsessed – and that’s a good thing!

I loved watching Hawkeye with my family and this all-new series is not only family-centered, but it also explores other parenting and mentorship dynamics that I really loved in the first two episodes and I’m looking forward to seeing more of in the upcoming episodes – 6 episodes in total, dropping on Disney+ every Wednesday.

Hawkeye – The Series

Marvel Studios’ “Hawkeye” stars Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye as he teams up with another well-known and beloved archer from the Marvel comics, Kate Bishop, played by Hailee Steinfeld.

The cast also includes Vera Farmiga, Fra Fee, Tony Dalton, Zahn McClarnon, Brian d’Arcy James, and newcomer Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez.

Hawkeye – An OG Avenger

Clint Barton, or Hawkeye, is a family man, an expert marksman and fighter and one of the original 6 Avengers. He’s the sixth Avenger to get his own title lead, and I’m here for it.

Hawkeye puts his talents to good use by working for S.H.I.E.L.D. as a special agent. He’s a loyal friend with a strong moral compass and that at times leads him astray from his direct orders.

Fury had sent Barton to kill a Russian assassin codenamed Black Widow. Instead, he offered to bring Natasha Romanoff over to the Avengers, and that’s when they became best friends.

Clint Barton stole the Tesseract and helped Loki and Selvig escape, nearly killing Director Fury and Agent Hill in the process, since Hawkeye was under Loki’s control at the moment.

And this moment is key in Hawkeye, the Disney Plus series: Hawkeye fights the oncoming Chitauri warriors alongside Captain America, Black Widow, Iron Man, Thor, and the Hulk, stealing the scene with his military combat skills and weaponized arrows.

This family man flew the Avengers to a safehouse—his secret homestead—where they met Barton’s pregnant wife and children. This happened following the destruction from the battle between Iron Man and the Hulk in a South African town.

Amidst the battle in Sokovia with Ultron, Hawkeye saved Wanda who was suffering from a panic attack, while giving her the option to stay inside and safe, or to exit the building to fight, as an Avenger.

Positive Lessons from Hawkeye – Disney+ Series

There are many positive lessons to be learned from Hawkeye and here are some of the ones that stuck out to me:

I loved the representation of the hard of hearing. Representation is very important and this plays a part in the comics, so it’s really beautiful to see it done tastefully and tactfully.

Another part I appreciated is not sugarcoating grief as a normal process and one you share with the people close to you. And within that concept, communicating that what may seem a casual or even exciting event, can actually be triggering to someone who’s experienced trauma or loss.

One aspect I think everyone will appreciate is the mentoring dynamic between Clint Barton and Kate Bishop, especially her father being gone.

And with young Kate Bishop, we see the false beliefs we adopt as children when something impacts us in a negative way: “I need to protect us,” and how these shape our lives.

One of the first things I pointed out to my daughters as we watched Episode 1 was that true friends won’t entice you to get in trouble and then bail on you. This is a challenge for me as a mom, the struggle of the desire to give my children freedom to choose everything – including their friends – and yet, steer them away from those who influence them to take the wrong paths in life.

Another theme I really love is how Clint Barton feels responsible for Ronin. We see himdealing with guilt, regret, and the consequences of a dark part of his past, and that is a great lesson to discuss with our children.

Oh… and can I say just what a great actor Tony Dalton is? The stepfather-wannabe dynamic was so creepy and, unfortunately, many will find it accurate. I do!

Last, but not least, I really appreciated the bathroom scene with the inappropriate request. Having attended many Hollywood red carpet premieres and premiere after parties, I can’t even begin to say how uncomfortable is to see people interrupt important and almost sacred moments just to get a selfie with someone famous. They are people!
