I Can’t Complain: The Complaint Challenge

I was doing a lot of complaining about the Dallas weather since it started to get cold. It was very counterproductive and actually prevented me from embracing other beautiful aspects of my new hometown.

Complains affect our overall state of being and feeling.

Everyone complains about a daily basis. Some complain more than others, or about smaller sillier things, but we all complain at one time or another.

30 days of no complaining - MOMtivation - the positive mom blog

Complaining is voicing something that feels frustrating, annoying, or intimidating. We complain to express how we have been wronged, used, manipulated, victimized, or disrespected and we want others to join in the pity party.

We complain about ourselves, the people in our lives, the places we visit and events around us or circumstances we experience, and even things that are not in our control.

I decided a few days ago that I would commit to 30 days of no complaints. Could you do that? 30 consecutive days of no complaining, criticizing, gossiping, using sarcasm, mumbling, grumbling, whining… and all the second cousins.

And since some people say when you complain you get more of what you complain about, I decided that first I would write down every complaint that came across my mind, and turn it into a gratitude statement.

Guess what? I’ve seen the sunshine every day the past few days! I’m truly enjoying it and soaking in all the vibrant feelings it brings my body and soul.

Even though I know that I will still smile big when the weather is cold, I just want to acknowledge what shows up for us when we stop complaining and start appreciating.

[…] Tell a lot of people about it: call, share it on your FB sisterhood, tweet it, post it on your blog. You will feel more accountable. I did that when I vowed to not complain for 30 days. […]

Great post Ela :)

I don't know if it's true but I once heard when we complain that 80% of the people don't care, and the other 20% actually wish us the misery we're complaining about LOL My best friend and I refer to it as the 80/20 rule and harass each other in fun whenever one of us complains. As a result, I pretty much avoided complaining altogether for a one year period after my divorce and it was beautiful. I found that it was not all that hard to catch myself, and as you said, the rewards are amazing. By my own admission I haven't been doing quite as well with that the past year, but I decided just recenty to F.O.C.U.S. on it again!!!

By the way, lovely picture ;)
