SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE has a run time of approximately 117 minutes and is rated PG for frenetic sequences of animated action violence, thematic elements, and mild language.

My girls had so much fun decorating their t-shirts. Eliana went all out with lots of colors, webs, buildings, and even a cool name: Spider-GEM!

She came up with a cool concept: “INTO THE SISTER-VERSE” so they decided to each write it on the back of their shirts. My 5-year-old is a genius!

Elisha went for a really conservative, clean concept, which is not surprising. The cool thing about art is that each child expresses themselves in their own unique way.

All my daughters loved SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE, so I asked Elisha and Elyssa to share their thoughts with you.

Elisha says:

It truly is a love letter to comic books. I love the lesson that in our own way “we are spider-man” – we can make a difference and be a superhero, it doesn’t have to mean we save a city or the world.

I love how Miles Morales is Afro-Latino and he comes from Puerto Rican heritage. Hearing him and his mom speak Spanish to each other was a beautiful moment for me, and I actually shed tears of joy. The representation on-screen was amazing, and I am proud to have a Spider-man who is from our culture.

I also love all the different variations of what spider-man is, especially Gwen Stacy, Spider-Woman. It’s inspiring that she can be a role model for other girls, that women don’t have to be the damsel in distress, they can do the saving. I love how she keeps getting up no matter how many times she is knocked down.

It was humorous and on-point. The different panels and comic book speech bubbles were gorgeous, the feelings Miles deals with are very relatable to teens in our age, and it had me constantly laughing throughout. I hope everyone watches Into The Spider-verse. It’s truly amazing!

Elyssa’s thoughts:

Into The Spider-Verse was absolutely AMAZING!

I loved all the diversity between all the spider-people. All of the characters had come from different walks of life, but they were all united in their purpose: To use their powers for the good of the world.

One of the things I loved was the message that people are very complex, and there’s always more than meets the eye.

Into The Spider-Verse really showed that anyone can be a hero, and that you don’t have to be super-human to help people. It was a movie of empowerment for everyone! Boys, girls, adults, teens, brown-skinned people, lighter-skinned people, and pigs!

We learn that everyone falls down, but what’s important is to always get back up, and that lesson applies to every aspect of life. We can always try again, whether it’s in relationships, school, or even a top-secret mission!
