The Best Way To Find Yourself

This past week has been one of the toughest in a while. Maybe I say that because my Little Pigeon is now 20 months old and I already forgot how I felt when I was pregnant… but really… hear me out: moving (that alone is A LOT), a flat tire, back pain, toothache, and the engorgement that comes from weaning – yes, I breastfed her THAT long.

Is it just me, or do we get lost in the aches, pains, and drudgeries? Sure, we smile, and we keep as positive as we possibly can (or so we think, anyway!) and do our best to not get irritated by what doesn’t go our way. And again, I’m not sure if it’s just me; however, it takes conscious effort to not let challenges and circumstances get the best of us.

As my husband announced this morning when I got up that there was a box for me outside the door, I inspected the package, and thought about Ghandi’s quote: “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” I confess I was excited because of the goodies I anticipated were inside the box, but mainly because of the good they do for people who are in need.

And so I started to unwrap the goodness like a privileged child opens a birthday present. I take that back… they wouldn’t be so careful with the box – it’s just so pretty. Here’s what the outside of it says:

CAUSEBOX by sevenly

THIS BOX MATTERS. People matter.

World change is how I roll. Pain is real but so is hope. Live simply so others can simply live. Work hard and stay humble. Love conquers all. Love like there’s no tomorrow. Love the unloved. Never suppress a kind gesture. Love is louder than hate. Autism: Different, not less. Cancer can’t silence courage. No one ever became poor by giving. Give more, indulge less. Remember, someone is praying for this. A good deed brightens a dark world. Giving is a life worth living. Give to love, love to give. Give your life away. Remember, someone is happy with less than what you take for granted. Give like your life depends on it.

I’ll go ahead and share and review the contents of my Sevenly CAUSEBOX with you. It’s $150+ worth of products shipped within the US and made especially for women by socially conscious brands in partnership with Sevenly. For every box sold (each costs only $49.95 a quarter with the yearly subscription), Sevenly gives $7 to one of 7 partner charities of your choice.

Sevenly CAUSEBOX review by The Positive MOM

When I looked inside, I found beauty, I found peace, I found joy… I found myself. A question that has been on the forefront of my brain since this morning is: is there such thing as a selfless good deed? The joy we experience giving, and especially when we don’t receive, is unsurpassed in my book. Just think of what we do as moms… we even call our children our PRIDE and JOY. I don’t think I’ve ever called my parents that!

I always get excited about people and companies that are committed to helping others and doing good and make it a point to support them. Sure, we can give in our churches, organizations in our own community, and to people we encounter along our daily journey – that is when you’re not in the middle of moving, cleaning to move out, cleaning to move in, and packing for 3 different conferences [ did I mention that in the next 2 weeks, I’m going to AZ for #Mom2Summit, Vegas for #CollisionConf, and FL to #DisneySMMC? ]. You’re right, I still could make time for giving face to face; however, it’s good to have a back up when you just don’t seem to find the time to do it.

I also like that Sevenly‘s mission is driven by the verses found on Matthew 22:36-40. It reads:

“We believe in the value of the Human being, and that there is No greater calling than to heal, rescue, and serve others.”

When we give, we are happier, we feel more connected, we find purpose in life. Each Sevenly CAUSEBOX  comes with a fold out card that contains the details of the items in the box and just reading about how many will be provided medical care, fed, employed, and empowered because of the generous subscribers, I feel connected to all of them. What a wonderful world!

Sevenly CAUSEBOX and Half United "Fighting Hunger" necklace, model: Elyssa of WhollyART

Both Elisha and Elyssa fell in love with this recycled bullet casing Half United Fighting Hunger Necklace made in Downtown LA. I was surprised because I thought it was a little strong, but leave it to children to see the core of what it truly is.

I’m keeping the Denik Be The Change Journal for myself (wink) even though my artsy girls read the “Art Can Change The World” motto and they wanted it for themselves. I think perhaps I could log random acts of kindness I receive or use it as a gratitude journal to count my many blessings: gratitude is another great way to find yourself! Who wants to be journal buddies?

The exclusive beaded Tribe Alive Bracelet is handmade by women in Honduras under fair trade working conditions and, Elisha saw her name on it as soon as I showed them the CAUSEBOX items.

I honestly thought the Perf Turkish Towel was a scarf, and I think it’s too pretty to dry myself! Maybe a decor item? JK It’s great for park outings! I liked receiving it as 15% of the proceeds from each towel sold provides clean water in Haiti, my neighbors in La Hispaniola (that’s what Haiti and Dominican Republic together are called as an island).

There was a sample of Good Spread Peanut Butter & Honey Packet, so I’m glad it didn’t go to waste because my mom is visiting and she is happy to have it (as vegans, my family does not consume honey… plus, I personally do not like the taste of peanut butter LOL). I also received 3 packets of Smarty Pants Vitamins, which I’m taking with me for the trip.

I’m also taking my awesome stickers, which will be a great networking + spreading good tool, because they are to make a difference in the life of a “stranger” or tell someone you love them TODAY. I’m grateful that they added these stickers as an extra just for me – what a way to make someone feel special! The stickies are to be given away with a hug and a smile (a match made in heaven for a hugaholic such as I!) and the messages represent the best way to find yourself:

Change the world. Love your neighbor. Live with purpose. Give your life away. Lose yourself.

And to save the best for last, my FAVORITEST item, which is already in my new bathroom mirror, is the “Good Day” Sevenly Cling, because every day is a good day, and some days you just need a reminder. Or a few. Stay tuned on my Instagram for a #SevenlySelfie. This is the message on the back peel:

Today is good day…right? Well, some days it is just a bit harder to remember this. Some days it is a bit harder to cherish the gift of life – every day that we get to breathe, love, and be.

Isn’t that the truth? I am choosing to treasure this day and embrace all it brings, and most importantly, find my joy by giving to others.

What a great idea. I think I would just send the money though instead of getting the box.
