The song Hero, by Mariah Carey, brings back fond childhood memories to both my brother and me.
It is one of our all-time favorite songs. The message is self-explanatory: there is a hero inside all of us.
I believe in our divine nature and our innate power to love and create.
The song starts with “There’s a hero if you look inside your heart.
You don’t have to be afraid of what you are.” Marianne Williamson (A Return to Love, 1992) talked about that very fear:
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
our presence automatically liberates others. “
My friend Les Brown says “There Is Greatness In You”… in all of us! The purpose of life is to choose to fully manifest our potential. We are called to be “a light” and, together, we can illuminate the world!
When I need strength and my reserves are low, I reach within and access faith and gratitude: they bring truth, light, possibilities.
“So if you feel like hope is gone, look inside you…” and find, embrace and celebrate your inner Hero.
Lord knows dreams are hard to follow,
but don’t let anyone tear them away. (Not Even Yourself!!!)
Hold on… there will be tomorrow!
In time, you’ll find the way… [and the strength to carry on…]
