Saint Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and I have a wonderful Saint Valentine’s Day Kit giveaway plus a free printable you will love, powered by my friends at Catholic Central.

February is commonly known as the month of love, where we celebrate the life of Saint Valentine who is the patron of love, young people and happy marriage. In my country, the Dominican Republic, we call it “the day of love and friendship,” so you celebrate our friends, too.

My Secret St. Valentine’s Day Story

I love the romantic feeling in the air and in the spirit of St. Valentine, I guess I must share my St. Valentine’s Day secret with you.

As you know, I’m a Story Strategist, and I help moms craft their story online, on print, and on the stage. I was going through a bit of a transition in 2011, so when I learned that Texas was a homeschool friendly state and that a Texas publishing company wanted my help in helping their authors with their stories, I decided to move from Naples, FL to Irving, TX. 

But there was more to that story. It turned out that my ex-boyfriend actually lived in Irving, Texas, and we gave getting back together a shot. Well… to make the long story short, that didn’t work out.

He was the publishing company’s web guy, and since I’m a web girl myself (been a web designer for over 20 years!), we ended up working on a website project together,  became really good friends and started spending time together. 

Because I’m quite the romantic, I had been planning to see the movie The Vow with my once again ex-boyfriend on St. Valentine’s Day 2012, so that fell through, as well.

Little did I know what my daughters were planning. Elisha and Elyssa not only asked him if he would take me on a date, they asked Nancy, our neighbor, to watch them while we went.

Of course, I rolled my eyes and said something like “That won’t be necessary. I’ll catch The Vow on DVD,” but they insisted, I said yes, and here we are almost 7 years later, married for 6 years and parents of a 5-year-old. 

We have no pictures of that night, which is interesting, but I’ll never forget that he wore shorts and flip flops and I wore a cute red and black dress and heels!

What gets embarrassing about this story is when people assume that he is the ex-boyfriend I got back together with in Texas. It’s also hilarious for me to know that the time we were spending together before “our first date” were technically dates, too. The world of dating in the US culture is still very confusing to me!
